Spain
The first excursion was to the artist mountain town of Miejas. Below- a church on the side of the mountain on the way to Miejas. Most of Miejas has whitewashed buildings- standard paint job, it seems. From Miejas you can see the Mediterranean.

The Miejas streets are narrow. Below also is a grotto church in the mountain. Miejas is very touristy as well.

The Hotel was located on the ocean and featured a couple beautiful pools as well as tropical gardens in Marbella.

Rojas- a city in the interior of Spain is considered the birthplace of the bullfight. We saw a mock bullfight and had dinner after which we watched a flamenco performance.

Tarifa- city on the Atlantic Ocean. We rented a car for one day and drove to Tarifa and Gibralter. We also visited an archeological site of an old Roman fishing village as well as a medievel castle. The tower below is an old watchtower.

The Roman fishing village-quite extensive excavation.
The Rock of Gibralter- a peninsula at the tip of Spain and only twelve miles from Africa, which you can see past the lighthouse. It is quite windy there. The British own Gibralter and it is very, very British- quite a different atmosphere from the neighboring Spanish culture. It is quite crowded. Gibralter is studded with gun towers and cannon enclaves dating back to the 1600's and used all the way through WW2.
A medievel castle on the top of a mountain- good view of the surrounding countryside. We drove up pretty close then hiked the last couple hundred yards. People and businesses still exist in the castle. The castle exhibits classic castle construction with tight turns on the approaches and steep walls with overhangs for defense.
Castle of Alcazaba-The Alcazaba, Malaga's castle has been built on tests of a roman fortress and was expanded and completed in the 14th century by the Nasrides. The castle overlooks the southern Costa del Sol city of Malaga which features a prominent bullfighting ring.
