Blog: Thoughts and Commentary
October 2006
10.31.06: WOW- October went by fast, in hindsight, though the month crept by each day. Brenden's last day working The Haunt- Finally! This last week was tough since he's at school all day, then at The Haunt 'til nearly midnight. It makes for late nights for all of us. But it is a fun experience and though the kids that work it don't get paid (they work as cast and crew- rather like a month-long theater performance), it is like a job and can be put on a resume. Once committed they need to show up, although there is some flexibility on the part of the manager.
10.26.06: Unplanned purchase. Joni's car started running rough a couple weeks ago. I changed plugs and wires and fuel filter but this did not fix the issue. So I took the car to a local trusted garage- valve four shot and needs replacement. Choice to be made...$600-900 to fix the 1995 Mercury Tracer with 110,000 plus miles that also has a broken windshield wiper, non-functioning rear defrost and bad springs on the rear suspension.
So
after a week of contemplation and shopping Joni got a new(er) car-
a 2003 Chevy
Impala. (By the way, the dealer installed new tires on it prior to the sale).
10.21.06: One of my favorite scientist/philosophers: Richard Dawkins- here's a link to him on NPR and on You-Tube
10.20.06: The MMBA southwest chapter
had a recent TV spot with WWMT- link here: Here's
a link from the MMBA Southwest Chapter on WWMT-TV
Joni and I did one for Gerry Barnaby on WOTV several months ago and here is
that link: Here's
a link to a video Joni and I did with WOTV Gerry Barnaby
10.18.06: Got the cold weather bike gear ready.. soon to be out on the road again for some training rides. The goal is 100 miles per week.
10.16.06: Lazy weekend.. I didn't do much at all... gotta get the bike out soon and start training for 2007 races.
10.10.06: Happy Birthday Patrick! 22 years old!!!
10.10.06: And more on the ongoing saga of the car... Friday, cylinder two misfire- I changed the plug wires and plugs and still have the same issues, so I dropped the car at the dealer- $200 to change the coils.
10.07.06: Went to the FunPromotions award dinner Saturday night. I got my really nice jacket for taking fourth place in my category for the endurance series (photos here)
10.4.06: We are approaching Oct 10th, the first anniversary of my dad's death. It is still not real (at times) that he's gone. When I conciously think about it- then yes, it becomes real. But day in-day out, no, it doesn't seem like he's gone. I can only surmise that so much of what made me, what informs me as an adult and as a person- is so ingrained from dad that he will never be truly gone. Perhaps that IS what immortality entails- the impact you have on people long after you are gone. I will commemorate this on Sunday, Oct 9th this year- considering it was a Sunday morning last year at about 6:00am that he took his final breath. Here's to you, dad- you are missed!
