Blog: Thoughts and Commentary

January 2007

1.26.07: The bike computer I have was an inexpensive one and the wire for it is damage, apparently, as it comes on and off as I spin. So I will need to get a new one in the next few days. Not critical yet as my spin time is still building. But my Feb 4th or so, I'd like to be up to over an hour and track ride miles on the trainer. But definitely, spinning can be boring. Spinning requires decent entertainment in either music or some good movie.

I just ordered "Off Road to Athens" (it was suggested by fellow mountainbiker Bill from Ann Arbor). It is about the journey for several pro mountain bikers to get the coveted spots on the US Olympic team to compete in the 2004 Summer Olympics. It should arrive early next week- I'll let you know what I think.

1.23.07: Okay- training in earnest starting tomorrow. I got the bike computer hooked up to the training bike and can now track mileage. I plan to do 20 miles each ride four to five times per week. Target is 100 miles per week.

ong time since last post- I've been quite busy with work, etc. Started spinning on the bike trainer. I've also been working on 2007 CPS items and have a pre-registration form now available for Yankee Springs Time Trial.

1.03.07: Yeah- got to ride the bike! I went to Ft Custer and did the Green Loop with a friend (thanks Brett). It was nice to get on wheels again. My technique is still okay but my cardio is down. I was breathin' hard on a couple of the hills- and the Green Loop doesn't have that big of hills! But- Christmas Tree is out of the house so I intend to get the bike trainer out again this week.

1.03.07: I saw this quote on a website the other day- I liked it: Saying atheism is a religion is like saying baldness is a haircolor

1.02.07: I finally got in touch with the family of the dog that attacked me on Halloween causing my
collarbone injury. He said to send him the bills via fax and he will send them to his insurance agent.
Progress!

I also sent the $125 to register for the third annual Lumberjack 100 mountain bike race. This year,
I intend to FINISH!

1.01.07: New Year! Just finished reading Sam Harris' book, "Letter to a Christian Nation."
book- rather like the atheist version of C.S.Lewis' "Mere Christianity." I think my favorite section
is where he challenges christians as to why they don't believe in Allah and the Kuran, essentially
calling them A-islamists (i.e. atheistic toward Islam). I still have a Barne's&Noble gift card left
intend to read Richard Dawkin's new book "The God Delusion."

I need to get back to riding now. I've been doing exersizes for my shoulder and collarbone, but
I need to get back on the bike. My
goal is 100 miles per week.

I got the first bill for the accident with the dog- $500 from the orthapedic surgeons, so now I need
to renew my efforts to get the people that own the dog to own up to the costs.
